<dc:description>The Song and Yuan periods marked the peak of porcelain handicraft production in Fujian, characterized by a significant increase in the export of Fujian kiln products. This surge was driven by a booming economy and thriving trade. The Min River, the most important waterway in Fujian, spans a vast area of the province and has a substantial carrying capacity, making it the primary transportation route. Consequently, the mouth of the Min River became a crucial trade port during that time.
This article examines the Huanxi Kiln, Pukou Kiln, and Dongzhang Kiln, located in the downstream area of the Min River, to provide an overview of the kiln industry and foreign trade in Fujian during the Song and Yuan periods, with a particular focus on the porcelain trade with Japan. The discussion highlights the maritime characteristics of Fujian’s porcelain handicraft industry during this period and emphasizes the close trade relations with Japan. This provides valuable empirical material for the study of Fujian’s kiln industry production and the daily trade practices of the Song era.</dc:description>
