| 内容記述 | Pierre is a book that forces us frustrated. This frustration, which looms both from its form and its substance, invites polar evaluations of the book: one that dismisses it for the very existence of this element, and the other that accepts it as reflecting the author's intention. These views, however, miss the mark as they neglect the author's view of fiction (Romance) that it should present a world where the human pursuit of truth (Enthusiasm) is highly evaluated. The view of fiction of this kind should not be underrated as it is rooted deep in the American intellectual tradition. | |||||||
