| 内容記述 | Inversion in English may be classified roughly into two types: subject-verb inversion and subject-auxiliary inversion. Both types of inversion are triggered by rules which prepose various kinds of elements to sentence-initial position. Which type of inversion is triggered by such rules is determined by the nature of the element to be preposed. If the element preposed is immediately dominated by VP or strictly subcategorizes the verb, subject-verb inversion occurs, whereas if the element preposed is immediately dominated not by VP but by S, subject-auxiliary inversion occurs. It is to be noted, however, that the elements which are preposed to trigger inversion, whether it is of subject-verb or of subject-auxiliary type, are usually fixed in their position in non-inverted structure. Elements like sentencemodifying adverbials which have relatively free position do not trigger inversion even when they take sentence-initial position. | |||||||
