Healthy postparturient Holstein cows, which were negative for both mastitis and bloody milk, were divided into two groups; five were vaccinated （V group） and\nthe other five were untreated as controls（ C group）. The number of lymphocytes, CD4-positive T cells, CD8-positive T cells, γδT cells and IgM-positive cells was not significantly different between the V and C groups. The mean ADA activity was 17.5 ±1.9 IU/ℓ in the V group and 12.2±2.9 IU/ℓ in the C group, significantly higher in the V group. A significant correlation was observed between the number of CD4-positive T cells and the ADA activity.\nIgG1 and IgA concentrations were significantly higher in the V group than in the C group. A significant correlation was observed between the concentration of IgG1 and the ADA activity.\nThese results suggest that E. coli vaccine results in reinforcement of humoral immunity in colostrum.
