Abstract
内容記述タイプ Other
内容記述 The S-wave velocity at room temperature and pressure was measured for granite samples with varying water saturation, and the variation of S-wave velocity with respect to water saturation and the ratio of P-wave to S-wave velocities were investigated. Moreover, the aspect ratio of pores was estimated by the kuster's expressions for the elastic moduli of composite materials.
The main results obtained are as follows: 1) The S-wave velocity in granite decreases monotonously from complete water saturation to zero water saturation, showing a pattern similar to the P-wave velocity. 2) The S-wave velocity difference between saturated and dry states increases with increasing P-wave velocity difference. 3) The S-wave velocity index, which means the velocity change corresponding to l% for effective porosity,is 0.12-1.29, and these values are smaller than those for the P-wave velocity. But the value of aspect ratio estimated by the Kuster's expressions for the S-wave velocity is 2-10×10^-3, showing the same range as the P-wave velocity. It is therefore shown that the effect of water saturation on the S-wave velocity is comparatively smaller than that on the P-wave velocity. 4) The ratio of P- to S-wave velocities in saturated state is in the rane of 1.8-2.20, and larger than that in dry state. It is suggested from these facts that the degree of water saturation in cracks can be estimated by the simultaneous measurement of P- and S-wave velocities.
