"　現行の学習指導要領における水泳系領域１）においては、記録の向上や競争の楽しさを味わわせる前提として、主に4つの近代泳法（クロール、平泳ぎ、背泳ぎ、バタフライ）の習得が求められている。水泳領域がスタートする小学校高学年においてはクロール及び平泳ぎで続けて長く泳ぐことが技能目標の中核に位置づけられている。背泳ぎの取り扱いについて、学習指導要領には「学校の実態に応じて背泳ぎも加えて指導することができる」と記載されているものの、背泳ぎを教える小学校はごく少数であり、ほとんどの小学校ではクロールと平泳ぎのみを扱い、背泳ぎの学習は中学校に譲るカリキュラム構成をとっているのが現状であろう。しかしながら、近代泳法の中でクロールや平泳ぎを優先的に教えていく意義やその根拠についての研究成果の蓄積は十分になされてきたとは言い難い。小学校中学年の浮く・泳ぐ運動領域の指導内容に遡ると、習得させるべき技能内容のひとつとして背浮きが組み込まれている。吉松（2011）は背浮きの状態で移動しながら呼吸を体感することに慣れてくれば、子どもは自然に手や足を使って自分で進むようになることを指摘している。このように背泳ぎは特別な呼吸動作を習得せずとも自力で簡単に泳ぐことができるという特徴を有するため、小学校高学年段階でも十分に習得可能な泳法として設定され得る可能性を十分に秘めているといえる。以上の問題意識に立ち、本研究では背浮き及び背泳ぎの有効性に着目し、クロールと背泳ぎの指導順序による泳技能習熟度の差異を明らかにすることで、近代泳法の指導順序の検討に資する研究成果の蓄積を図ることとした。",
